"The Phantom Ship" is the stuff of folklore in both Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. For hundreds of years Islanders and Nova Scotians have seen the ship - a burning three-masted schooner, moving slowly along the Northumberland Strait until it was out of sight. In some cases the sighting was seen by more than one person, in one sighting by hundreds of people, hurrying to the shores to see the passing of this legendary occurrence.
